The Study Centre’s primary purpose is to facilitate the study and publication of the Eleutherna excavations, implement research programmes, and participate in research programmes led by other Greek and foreign universities.

Currently, the Centre is carrying out a project entitled Research on the relations of Eleutherna with the wider Mediterranean world during the Early Iron Age, led by Professor Nikolaos Chr. Stampolidis and a group of scholars. Furthermore, a group of Greek and foreign scholars are processing the pottery from the Orthi Petra cemetery excavations and studying other archaeological material.

In collaboration with the National Technical University, the Centre created a special database for cartographic and topographic data storage and processing. Detailed maps and drawings of the sites and monuments are currently underway.

Finally, a special database was created for the storage and processing of the excavation’s photographic archive.

All of the Centre’s activities are carried out in collaboration with the University of Crete and the Mediterranean Archaeological Society.
