The Museum of Ancient Eleutherna – Homer in Crete and the University of Crete also own the old primary school of the modern village of Archaia Eleutherna (Prines). This stone-built, single-room building with tiled roof is located in the village centre, next to the handsome nineteenth-century church of the Prophet Elijah, the village’s patron saint. Its enchanting stone-paved courtyard overlooks the region’s wooded slopes.

This space will host activities that complement the Museum’s programme: screening of films and documentaries related to the excavation and archaeological research, small temporary photography and art exhibitions, etc. It will also house a small shop with objects inspired by the ancient artefacts displayed in the Museum. The courtyard will be used for events and presentations during the summer months.
